The U.S. now pays more than $2 billion per week for imported crude oil
and petroleum products (Energy Information Administration).
Transportation accounts for 65% of U.S. oil consumption (Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network).
For nearly half a century, transportation has accounted for about one-fourth of total U.S. energy use and two-thirds of total oil consumption (DOE Energy Information Administration).
